The tempo (BPM) in FL Studio can easily be automated throughout a song. You might want it slower in one section and faster in another. However, this can also cause problems since samples might get out of sync. It's can also be difficult to find the right BPM since automation in FL Studio is shown in percent. About This Video

In this beginner FL Studio tutorial, I show you the clean way to do a tempo change (BPM switch) throughout a song—without your samples going out of sync or getting weirdly pitched. I start with a simple example: a tropical house beat at 101 BPM, then I slow the intro down to 80 BPM and bring it back up to 101 after the intro. The key first step is enabling realtime stretching for all samples (Tools > Macros > Switch realtime stretching for all samples). That’s what keeps everything locked to the grid when the tempo moves. After that, I walk you through creating tempo automation clips the right way: highlight the section, set the tempo, then right-click the tempo and create an automation clip. I also show how to avoid that harsh “instant jump” by merging automation clips (Ctrl + Alt + G) and shaping a smoother curve. And if you’re dealing with multiple tempo changes, I explain why it’s often easier to make separate clips first and merge them later, or copy/paste exact values instead of plotting points manually. Finally, I cover a real-world warning: tempo automation can make recording vocals later a pain, so it’s usually better to record vocals first or render the instrumental in place before tracking.
