Movie Sets, Saguaro Dreams & a Rattlesnake Encounter

Part 2 of our Hidden Arizona series takes us deeper into the unexpected. After an incredible stop at the historic Mescal movie set—featured in over 120 films including Tombstone and The Quick and the Dead—we hit the trail again with our sights set on Copper Creek Mine. But like most trips, the best moments weren’t the ones we planned. Along the way, Matt checked off a bucket list moment… seeing saguaro cacti up close for the first time. Something I once took for granted living in Arizona. As the trail pushed us deeper into the canyon, the landscape changed—and so did the feeling. A feeling of confusion, Signs of private property no camping, yet the presence of old fire rings.. At Copper Creek Mine, we took a moment to explore, keeping our distance from unstable structures while taking in the weight of the history. Not everything out here is meant to be touched. And just when things felt routine again… the desert reminded us whose home we were traveling through. A rattlesnake encounter where we chose to slow down, respect the space, and appreciate the wild for what it is.
