About This Video

You guys, in this video I’m back at the house with the wind blowing and storms rolling in, and I’m doing what I have to do before I even think about moving my stuff in. I waited a couple days for the diatomaceous earth to do its thing, then I swept it and spread it all over the floors, especially along the edges and corners. After that, I went in with a little handheld battery-operated sprayer I grabbed from Walmart and sprayed the whole place with Ortho—borders, corners, floors, and even the window ledges—because I’ve been finding little bitty black bugs in there (fleas? ticks? I don’t even know, but I’m not playing with that). This is really the good, the bad, and the ugly of buying a true fixer upper—especially an older home (this one’s early 50s) that wasn’t maintained and had tenants. I’m talking broken windows, needing an attic cover, pet hair, and plumbing issues like a tub that won’t drain, a drip that won’t quit, and a kitchen setup where one side works and the other doesn’t. I also share a DIY lesson I caught myself on (almost spray-foaming where I’d need plumbing access—duh), plus a bigger project we agreed on: widening the driveway into a two-car driveway since we can’t park on the street. Brace yourself, because with a fixer upper, you just never know what you’re going to find.
