In this video I’m building real smart home automations with the Aqara FP2 presence sensor, and I’m doing it the same way I actually think through automations in my own house. The FP2 is one of those “magical” devices because it can do so much more than basic motion, and I use four of them around my home (living room, kitchen, studio, and bedroom). I walk through my four-layer model so you can decide how deep you need to go: start simple in the Aqara app, step up to HomeKit when you need basic parameters like time, use a third-party HomeKit app when you need conditions based on other device states, and then go full Home Assistant when the main apps just can’t do what you want. I show examples at every layer: a level-one Aqara automation that turns on my dining area light when presence is detected, a HomeKit time-window automation that turns off living room lights when I leave, a level-three “movie mode” automation built in Home+ where my Apple TV pauses when the room goes empty, and a level-four Home Assistant automation that waits 5 minutes after the kitchen is clear and confirms the dining area is clear before shutting lights off. The big takeaway: the FP2 is insanely versatile, but the platform you choose (Aqara/HomeKit/Home+ or Controller/Home Assistant) determines how smart your automations can get.
