Last year at Munich High End, one of the few tables that genuinely stood out to me was Aune. I’ve known the brand for years (I owned an old Aune amp/DAC combo ages ago), but I didn’t expect them to debut headphones that would stick in my head. In this video I focus on the Aune AR5000: a ~$300 open-back that somehow crawled into my daily rotation even though I’ve got summit-tier gear all over the studio. I walk through the unboxing, build, and ergonomics—and yes, comfort is the headline. The AR5000 is light (around 350g), has a beautifully designed headband, great adjustment clicks, and pads that make it an all-day, “ridiculous comfort monster.” It’s also very easy to drive (20 ohm), so I ran it off everything from the Chord Mojo 2 to desktop amps like the Aune S17 Pro Evo. Sound-wise, I describe it as a neutral-reference leaning tuning with a slightly dark midrange and a touch of lower-treble energy for attack without fatigue. It’s relaxed but not dull, with solid mid-bass punch and audible sub-bass extension. For me, it’s the $300 all-rounder crown contender—comfort, build, and “good enough is good enough” synergy that lets you stop chasing and just enjoy music.
