About This Video

In this review I put the Orchard Audio Valencia under proper summit-tier pressure, because it’s a collaboration between Z (Z Reviews) and Leo at Orchard Audio that genuinely made me sit up and pay attention. Leo’s background as an aerospace engineer (NASA/military) shows up in the Valencia’s philosophy: minimal, functional, reliable, and designed to disappear so you’re left with the music. It’s a $2,000, class AB, power-amp-style headphone amplifier (17W into 32 ohms) with no volume control—so you must run a preamp or a DAC with pre-out. I tested it across multiple “system categories,” from sane mid-fi front ends like the Topping DX5 to full summit chains like Dave/M Scaler and the Aperio’s own pre/DAC feeding the Valencia. The big takeaway: it scales hard. The Valencia is exceptionally clean, opaque, controlled, and resolving—punching above its price and trading blows with amps like the Bliss/Oor (while being less textured/tactile than the best of them). Caveats matter: keep sources off the chassis (shielding/noise), pay attention to power and interconnects (it responds to upgrades), and know there’s no volume pot. Also, my one real mismatch was Modhouse Tungsten: it got loud, but bass control felt bloomy and “weird” to me.
