Yes—power isn’t the issue here. In my testing the Valencia’s 17W into 32 ohms and stable delivery made it a very capable driver for demanding planars like Susvara. It’s the kind of amp where you stop thinking about “can it drive it?” and just swap headphones and listen.

Does the Valencia have a volume control or need a preamp?

There’s no volume control on the Valencia because it’s designed like a power amp. You need a preamp stage somewhere in the chain—either a DAC with pre-out or a dedicated pre (Cosmos, Goldpoint, Serene, etc.). If you’re using something like TT2/Dave or other sources with pre functionality, you’re good.

How does the Valencia sound compared to amps like the Ferrum OOR or Holo Bliss?

The Valencia is cleaner, more opaque, and more controlled to my ears. Where it gives up ground is texture and tactility—especially versus the Bliss, which can be a texture monster with the right DAC. But the fact I’m even making that comparison at this price is the whole point: it punches above its category.

Does the Valencia scale with better DACs, power, and cables?

Absolutely, and that’s one of the reasons I called it more of an “accessory” than a typical amp—it enhances whatever you feed it. I heard clear scaling with interconnects, and even power made a big difference in my system. With a high-end front end, it doesn’t feel out of place in a summit-tier rack.

Are there any noise or placement issues with the Valencia?

Yes—don’t stack your DAC on top of it. In my testing, placing a DAC on the Valencia introduced residual noise, so I recommend isolating it in the rack. It performs better when you give it a bit of physical separation.

Is the Valencia good for mid-fi setups like a Topping DX5?

It worked exceptionally well with the DX5 in my lower-category setup, and that’s a big part of the value proposition. If you’re stepping up from dongles or entry stacks, the Valencia can be a long-term anchor that you won’t outgrow quickly. It’s the “buy once, scale later” argument—because constant upgrading in mid-fi can cost you more over 24 months.

Does the Valencia pair well with the Modhouse Tungsten?

This was my main caveat: I don’t think it drives Tungsten well. It gets it loud and it sounds “fine,” but bass control felt bloomy and odd to me. Interestingly, I preferred it with Susvara OG over Tungsten.
