Meze Audio have been busier than a pair of cockaspananiels in their honeymoon suite this year, and this video is the final stop before Black Friday and Christmas: the Meze 105 SILVA. I unbox it, go through what you actually get (that magnetic shelf box, the flight case, the puck, and that Kevlar-covered OCC cable), and then I get into why—at around $500—this is the “for everybody” pick in Meze’s sub-$1000 open-back lineup. Build is classic Meze: made in Romania, absolutely stellar materials, plush pads you want an entire pillow made of, and comfort that genuinely disappears on your head for hours. Sound-wise, I frame it as the middle road between the 105 AER and the 109 PRO. The 109 PRO leans more reference/bright and can get fatiguing around that 5–6k/6k area on rough masters; the 105 AER is significantly warmer. The 105 SILVA lands bang in the middle—keeping the resolution/detail abilities while bringing in a warmer mid-bass and midrange. The sub-bass is the shocker: I ran a 20–40 Hz sweep and it genuinely holds down to 20 Hz with visceral pressure. I also talk staging (a bit more intimate, with some 45° “dead spot” behavior), drivability (42 ohms, 112 dB—easy), and real-world pairing—especially how well it runs from a Mojo 2, plus a simple EQ suggestion if you want it darker and even less fatiguing.
