About This Video

In this video I put the FiiO FT7 under the microscope—FiiO’s big swing at a sub-$1000 open-back planar with a massive 106mm dual-sided magnet driver, carbon fiber in the build, and a surprisingly premium accessory suite. I walk you through the unboxing (dual box + proper flight case), the pad system that actually clicks on/off cleanly, and the included adapters—especially the no-dangly-wire 4.4mm to 4-pin XLR adapter, which I wish more companies would copy. I also call out the ergonomics: it’s a large headphone built for big heads, comfortable for hours, but the adjustment mechanism is stiff and the overall headband structure could be slimmer and more refined. Sound-wise, I found the FT7 to be warmish, soft, and gentle—an all-day, non-fatiguing listen with a huge stage and big images. It’s not chasing hyper-detail or ultra-fast transients; it’s chasing musicality, tonal density, texture, and that long, resonant decay that makes jazz, folk, acoustic, live recordings, and slower classical feel downright lovely. Sub-bass rolls off around 25–30Hz, midbass has good punch, and vocals come through large and present. Pad rolling shifts it toward a cooler, more linear “reference” tilt, but you lose some of the love and authority. My scores: build 3.5/5 tigers, comfort 4/5, sound 4/5, value 4/5.
