With the introduction of the 109 Pro from Meze Audio, the bar for sub-$1000, dynamic, open-back headphones was set incredibly high. Recently, the lineup has expanded with the addition of the 105 AER and the 105 Silver. In this in-depth review, we’ll dive into the 105 AER, compare it to the Silver, and help you determine which suits your listening preferences best. This expansion brings the price range from $500 to $900, offering a diverse sonic palette that spans cool, warm, and balanced sound signatures. About This Video

In this video I take a proper look at the Meze Audio 105 AER—one of the new branches off the 109 Pro “family” that expands Meze’s lineup down into that roughly $500–$600 bracket (region-dependent). I go through the unboxing, accessories, and build, and I’ll say it plainly: the presentation is premium, the carry case is genuinely practical, and the pads are absurdly plush—so soft I joked I want a t‑shirt made of the material. Comfort is a non-issue even with glasses, and the overall construction has that classic Meze attention to detail. Sound-wise, I frame the 105 AER as a warmer, thicker, more euphonic take compared to the more treble/detail-leaning 109 Pro. Bass digs low with articulate sub-bass, mid-bass hits with real punch, and the midrange is forward, warm, lush, and extremely satisfying—especially for guitars and rock/metal. It’s also very easy to drive (Apple dongle-friendly), but it does scale with better sources. My main caveat is stage behavior: the outer “circumference” stays oddly consistent track-to-track, and there can be a bit of 6–7k energy on badly mastered pop/hip-hop. Overall: a complete, all-genre package in a brutally competitive price bracket—solid four tigers out of five.
