About This Video

In this video I’m finally digging into the Modhouse Tungsten V2—what looks like a “minor iteration” on paper, but in listening and day-to-day use it’s a lot more substantial than that. I walk through the Tungsten journey (OG single-sided, then Tungsten DS) and show what Ryan has changed on V2: the thinner/lighter chassis, the honeycomb open grill, improved headband weight distribution, larger 3.5mm cup recess for chunky plugs, a custom user-replaceable PCB for the jack, and even a user-replaceable driver with revised trace geometry for better consistency and efficiency. Comfort is up, weight feels down, and it’s a more premium-feeling build overall. Sound-wise, V2 keeps the Modhouse “house sound” I know—rich, tactile, mid-centric, and non-fatiguing—but it’s simply better executed. The big gains versus DS are authority, speed, and driver tactility, plus a treble region I can listen to much longer without fatigue. I also compare it directly to the Hifiman Susvara: Susvara still wins on treble timbre and that last bit of clean ambience/reverb decay, but Tungsten V2 is wildly euphonic for the money and scales hard with proper voltage headroom. And yes—cables made an unusually large difference here, enough that I’m sending findings back to Ryan because it surprised even me.
