With the 10th anniversary of the Meze Audio 99 Classics upon us, 2025 is the perfect time to revisit the headphone that launched Meze’s journey. We’ll explore how it’s held up over the decade, the philosophy behind its enduring design, and—just as importantly—how it stacks up against today’s competitors in its category. In other words, is the 99 Classics still worth your money in 2025? About This Video

It’s the Meze 99 Classics’ 10th anniversary, so I pulled it back onto the desk for a proper 2025 re-review—because some headphones just refuse to melt into the ether. I’ve lived with a lot of long-running staples over the years (HD600/650, HD800S, Utopia, Susvara), and the 99 Classics belongs in that “still relevant enough to revisit” conversation—especially as the headphone that effectively launched Meze’s journey. In this video I go through the unboxing, accessories, comfort, isolation (yes, even with glasses), and the little design details that still feel distinctly “true Meze.” Then I get into what actually matters: the sound, and whether it’s still worth your money around the ~$300 mark in 2025. I tested it with my go-to compact pairings—the Chord Mojo 2 and Questyle M18i—and I’ll be blunt: this is a fun closed-back, not a reference set. The midrange dynamic range is genuinely impressive and vocals can be front-and-center and texturally rich, but the bass is very much “more over a bit extra” for my taste, and it can muddy things on already bottom-heavy tracks. If you want a closed-back with gorgeous build and comfort, you should audition it. If you want a more audiophile-reference direction, I’d save up and look at the Meze 105 Air instead.
