About This Video

Heat. Anniversaries matter. In this video I’m coming straight off the 10th anniversary of the Meze 99 Classics, and this is the successor: the Meze 99 Classics V2. I walk you through what’s actually new after a decade—eco-friendly recyclable packaging, the compact hard case, the upgraded braided cable, and the small but important usability changes like the revised 3.5mm connection and bigger cups for bigger ears. I also show the new pad removal system and the included tuning filters that let you shift the V2 closer to the warmer, thicker V1-style tuning. Then I get into where it counts: sound. I pushed the drivers hard (yes, even on big rigs like the Riviera AIC10 and Idian Meta) just to see what the driver can do, and the V2 is simply cleaner and more resolving than the original. The tuning leans neutral-bright with energy in the upper mids and treble, but the impressive part is how they’ve controlled closed-back resonances—snare is incisive, kick has real weight, and it sounds larger than it has any right to at $349. I A/B it against the Aune AR5000 and reference it against Meze’s own 109 Pro and the Meze Silver: the V2 can be a touch fatiguing around that upper-mid/6k area for me, but it’s a serious upgrade and a very strong closed-back in the $300 class.
