In this video I’m unboxing and giving my first impressions of the new 13-inch M4 iPad Pro alongside the new Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil Pro. I’ve been an iPad guy basically my whole life, and I’ve used an iPad Pro as my laptop replacement for the last 4–5 years—so this refresh had me genuinely excited. Quick disclaimer: this is a hardware-focused review only. I’m not getting into iPadOS here (yes, I know the limitations), that’s a separate conversation. The big headline for me is the new OLED Ultra Retina XDR display (Apple’s “tandem OLED”). OLED is the superior display tech in my opinion, and the brightness jump is a huge deal—1,000 nits sustained in SDR and up to 1,600 nits for HDR. I also talk about the M4 chip situation (it’s cool, but I’m not freaking out about it), plus the annoying spec split where you only get the full 10-core CPU and 16GB RAM if you buy the 1TB or 2TB models. On the accessory side, the Magic Keyboard got the quality-of-life updates it always needed: aluminum top deck, a function row (and finally an Escape key), plus a larger haptic trackpad that feels way more Mac-like. The Apple Pencil Pro adds squeeze controls, barrel roll, and—thankfully—Find My support, even if the lack of backwards compatibility still kind of sucks.
