In this video I do a quick overview and unboxing of the XMing Episode One / Xmini Project One projector, which sits around €199/$199. While I’m unboxing it, I run through the important specs: 1920x1080 resolution, up to 150 lumens, LED light source, and a recommended screen size up to about 100 inches (it can do 40–120 inches). You also get auto focus and auto scaling to help straighten the image, plus Google TV so you can jump into apps like Netflix and Prime Video. From my real-world use, the big win is how compact and easy it is to live with. It even has a basic tripod thread underneath, so I just throw it on the same tripod I use for my camera and set it up in my bedroom for late-night series or some casual gaming. I also like that I can plug in a USB stick with older TV shows, or hook up a PlayStation 3/4 for DVDs and games. Brightness is usable with lights on, but it’s clearly better with lights off, and the built-in speakers are actually fine for dialogue with a bit of bass. For €199 it’s a solid deal—as long as you don’t expect “proper TV” blacks, perfect colors, or an immersive sound setup.
