About This Video

Games Workshop loves telling you Combat Patrols and starter boxes are the “best bang for your buck,” so I actually went and bought the Warhammer 40K 10th Edition Starter Set and did the no-nonsense maths. For £67.50 you’re getting a 64-page handbook, two reference sheets, 10 dice, a transfer sheet, two range rulers, and a surprisingly nice playing map—plus a solid chunk of Space Marines and Tyranids to get games going. Model-wise, the box includes a Space Marine Captain in Terminator armour, five Terminators, and five Infernus Marines. On the Tyranid side you get a Tyranid Prime, three Von Ryan’s Leapers, a Psychophage, 20 Termagants, two “Swarm” sprues, and two Ripper Swarms. Then I compare that straight to the Space Marine and Tyranid Combat Patrols (both £100 each), and it’s honestly a bit mad how much value you’re getting here. Even if you buy the missing bits separately (like the Librarian in Terminator armour and the extra Tyranid unit), you’re still saving a big chunk of money. My verdict: yes, you should buy this box—especially if you like saving money and “cheating the system.” It’s a smart way to start two armies, split it with a mate, or sell the half you don’t want to fund more models.
