About This Video

I’m moving to New York for two months, and I’m trying to be honest about why—because the more I think about it, the more the whole “NYC is magic” thing starts to feel like BS. I had an amazing summer there when I was 19, but I don’t know if I loved the city or if I just loved the context: internship, novelty, being young, and everything feeling like a movie. So I’m treating this like a two‑month “free trial” (not free, because NYC is expensive), where it feels good knowing I can cancel if I hate it. In this vlog I break down what people call “creative energy” and “hustle” and how a lot of that is basically population density—more stimulation, more random encounters, more entertainment by default when you’re just wandering. But I also question whether paying more rent for more density actually improves the stuff I say I care about: close friendships, martial arts training, creating content, career progress, and social life. The one clear practical reason is work—I’m producing for BuzzFeed and my team is in New York, and remote filming just isn’t the same as being in the studio. I’m excited, but I’m also checking myself on whether I’m just chasing a past version of my life.
