Internships are usually a college student's first experience with a software developer job and are an important stepping stone for one's career in the tech industry. While in other industries internships are valued as networking opportunities ("It's about who you know!"), engineering internships are centered around a project. Software engineering internships are less about shadowing a mentor and more about navigating various technical and non-technical project components. These might include writing design docs / product specs / tech specs, coding in various languages and frameworks, transferring knowledge, and overseeing a complicated deployment process.
