About This Video

In this video, I break down the stuff I genuinely wish someone told me before I started medical school. The biggest mindset shift: med school isn’t “hard” because the concepts are impossible—it’s hard because of the volume and the speed. You’re expected to learn a ridiculous amount of information in a short time, so your system matters more than your “motivation.” I talk about how to approach studying in a way that maximizes learning without burning out, especially as a first-year who’s still figuring out what works. I also zoom out and talk about the journey itself—enjoy it, because you only get to be a first-year once. I share why I don’t treat med school like a competition, why perfectionism will slow you down, and why your patients eventually become your best teachers. On top of that, I emphasize wellness and collaboration: taking care of yourself and leaning on your classmates aren’t “optional,” they’re part of what helps you flourish. Finally, I remind you that not all advice is good advice—filter everything, test what works for you, and build a system you can actually sustain.
