Did Ayo Dosunmu just reveal a major flaw in the Chicago Bulls offense? In this clip, Haize reacts to Ayo’s comments about the Bulls’ shot selection and why mid-range shots were basically taken out of the offense. Bulls fans have been debating Billy Donovan, analytics, and player development all season, and this adds even more fuel to the fire. About This Video

In this video, I react to Ayo Dosunmu basically exposing something Bulls fans have been feeling all season: the mid-range is treated like it’s “prohibited” in Chicago. As soon as I heard that, I immediately thought about how Ayo used to attack the mid-range more earlier in his career, and how limiting that part of the floor can stunt guys who are trying to become real three-level scorers. I also talk about the context Ayo gave—coming off screens and having a real physical presence like Rudy Gobert changes what you can generate—and why the Bulls simply haven’t had that kind of consistent big (outside of flashes from Andre Drummond and an injured Zach Collins). But the bigger point is this: I’m not saying the Bulls should live in the mid-range like the DeMar DeRozan era. I’m saying the overcorrection has gone way too far. The Bulls are dead last in the NBA in mid-range frequency—only 4.6% of their shots. When you eliminate an entire area of the court, you let defenses pack the paint, guard the rim better, and force you into more threes—except the Bulls aren’t good enough as a three-point shooting team to justify that kind of shot diet. And yeah, I address the weird segment of fans who rushed to defend Billy Donovan on this like restricting players is automatically “smart” basketball.
