About This Video

In this video, I’m breaking down the Bulls shutting down Jaden Ivey (and Jalen Smith) for the rest of the season, and yeah… I hate to say it, but I called it. Once Ivey bumped knees and then didn’t travel with the team, I pretty much knew it was headed this way. With only a handful of games left, there’s no real point in bringing him back for live action—rehab him, keep him with the training staff, get the work in at practice, but you’re not learning anything meaningful in seven games coming off an injury. The bigger conversation is what this means for Ivey’s future in Chicago. Before the injury, he was giving you close to 18 a night and almost 40% from three, and the catch-and-shoot improvements were real—especially if you’re thinking long-term fit next to Josh Giddey. But the Bulls also have to face the reality that he may not be here long-term, depending on how they handle restricted free agency. I talk through the qualifying offer angle, how they can safeguard the asset, and why a shorter, team-friendly deal might be the only path. And I’m keeping it a buck: with where the Bulls are likely drafting, I think there’s a strong chance they take a guard in this draft to be that long-term backcourt piece next to Giddey. That’s the crossroads—injury timing, contract leverage, and the Bulls’ draft direction all colliding at once.
