In this live stream, I’m literally playing your beats in real time and giving you the same feedback I’d give in the studio: is it in key, is the 808 following the root note, and does the drop actually drop. We start with a packed queue (it was already like 37–55 beats deep), so I kept reminding everybody: send ONE MP3 to the email in the description if you want to get in line, and if you’re trying to skip the line, the instructions are there too. A big theme today was melodies first, then basslines. If your 808 is missing the root note, pitch bending into outer space, or you’ve got out-of-key bells/cowbells, you already know what time it is—808 police, jail time, community service… all that. But it wasn’t just jokes: I talked through practical fixes like simplifying the 808 pattern, matching semitone changes, turning up a short 808 without making it too long, and doing switch-ups so your beat doesn’t look like a brick waveform. We also got into mix issues (clipping/distortion, crunchy chords, clicks/pops) and arrangement choices like leaving space for vocals and using panning/velocity to humanize hats.
