About This Video

In this video I’m having a proper play with mixed media while sketching a hare, and it’s very much a “let’s see what happens” kind of session. I start with Daler Rowney FW Acrylic Ink in black to get those quick, confident lines down in my A5 Viviva watercolour sketchbook, then I loosen everything up with watercolour from my little Sennelier travel set. I’m not aiming for perfection here—I’m building character and movement, and letting the materials do some of the work. Once the drawing is in place, I bring in Brusho (Burnt Sienna) for that lovely burst of granulating colour, and I balance it all with Liquitex Titanium White acrylic paint to pull out highlights and add a bit of punch. The key takeaway is how well these materials layer when you let each stage dry and you don’t over-fuss it. If you’re a beginner, this is a great way to explore ink, watercolour, Brusho and acrylic together without feeling like you have to commit to one “right” method—just enjoy the process and see where it takes you.
