About This Video

In this little ink-and-watercolour lesson, I show you how I sketch a cute Eurasian wren using a simple reference photo and a very approachable materials list. I talk you through the drawing step-by-step, focusing on getting the basic shapes in first (body, head and that perky tail), then building the character with a few confident ink marks rather than lots of fussy lines. It’s very much an “easy drawing lesson” style tutorial—perfect if you’re a beginner or you just want a quick win in your sketchbook. Once the ink sketch is in, I add just a dash of watercolour to bring the wren to life without losing that crisp pen work. I’m using an A5 Bockingford block (140lb, NOT pressed) and a size 8 Pigma Micron, so you can see how far you can get with a straightforward setup. A quick note as well: some of the footage is a bit out of focus (sorry about that), but the process is still clear—and if anything isn’t, you’re welcome to ask me questions in the comments.
