About This Video

In this video I’m painting a simple silhouette against a glowing sunset, using a really limited palette of Liquitex Soft Body acrylics. I’m working on a wooden board from Jackson’s Art, and I start by priming it with clear gesso so the surface is sealed but still has that lovely “board” feel. Then I lay down a cool lilac ground, which might sound like an odd choice for a sunset at first, but it’s a brilliant way to get those warm colours to sing on top. From there I build the sky in soft layers, keeping things loose and painterly, and then I finish by adding a bold, dark silhouette to anchor the whole piece. If you’re a beginner, this is a great little project because you don’t need loads of colours or fancy kit—just a few well-chosen paints and a bit of patience with layering. I also share where I keep my current materials list (my Amazon shops), plus links if you’d like to support the channel, sign up to my studio newsletter, or have a look at my prints.
