About This Video

In this Ink & Watercolour tutorial I’m painting a cheerful daffodil on an A5 Bockingford pad (140lb watercolour paper), and the real focus is on creating character and movement with expressive line work. I use a size 8 Pigma Micron to draw those lively, confident lines first, then I drop in Artist’s Watercolour paints from Winsor & Newton to bring the flower to life. The aim isn’t a stiff botanical study—it’s a daffodil that feels like it’s dancing about a bit, with marks that suggest energy and direction. I’m working with a size 6 round sable brush, keeping the shapes simple and letting the ink do a lot of the “describing” for me. If you’re a beginner, this is a really friendly way into ink and watercolour because the line work gives you structure, and then the paint can be loose and enjoyable. If you’d like to keep practicing daffodils, I’ve also linked my previous daffodil tutorials so you can try a few approaches and see what suits your style best.
