About This Video

In this video I break down five super common (and very avoidable) mistakes people make when buying a gaming chair. And yeah—I know the meme is “the first mistake is buying a gaming chair,” and for some people that’s honestly true. If you’re over 30, have back issues, or you’re parked at your desk 8–10+ hours a day, I’d seriously consider a mesh-backed ergonomic chair instead. But if you’re here because you want a gaming chair for the look, the vibe, or the streamer aesthetic, this is how you avoid getting stuck with a rebranded sweat-box. First, don’t assume all gaming chairs are the same—some are literally the same chair with a different logo, and a few brands actually do unique designs. Second, follow the manufacturer sizing guide (Secretlab is a great example) because these chairs fit more like “fitted seats” than generic office chairs. Third, think about how you sit—if you sit cross-legged or bring your legs up, you want a flatter seat base, not one with aggressive side walls. Then we get into finish/materials, because cheap PU leather is usually hot, sweaty, and doesn’t age well—fabric tends to be the best overall. Finally, price doesn’t automatically mean better: for racing-style gaming chairs, I think the sweet spot is around $400–$450, and I wouldn’t pay over $500 for the typical gaming-chair formula.
