About This Video

Hey everyone, Joshua Hanlon here, and in this video I’m at Brickworld Indy 2026 right in the middle of a massive LEGO Great Ball Contraption loop. I walk through the layout with a bunch of the builders and we take a close look at what makes a big public GBC actually work: lifts, splitters, ball pumps, counters, handoffs, and all the little tweaks that keep the balls moving. You’ll see everything from John’s multi-table stretch of modules (with lots of NXT programming, timed lifts, and some wonderfully aggressive flippers) to Elijah’s long run of conveyors, steppers, catapults, and cup-to-cup variations—including a smaller cup-to-cup he’s testing and planning to release instructions for. We also talk with Paul “Darth GBC” about modules like his ski hill, a ball counter, and even a Great Wave set turned into a working GBC module. Brian shows off some of his oldest modules dating back to 2005, plus newer Brickworld workshop designs, and we get into real show-floor realities: motors that last three or four shows, parts that fail at the worst possible moment, and why “failure points are mostly the plastic.” We wrap with Rafe’s 13-bit gravity-powered binary ball counter—an honest-to-goodness mechanical adding machine counting every ball through the loop.
