At Atlanta Brick Con 2026, I talked with Tom Jacobsen about his newest castle build, “Falcon Tower,” a Black Falcons layout that leans hard into royal residence and luxury rather than pure warfare. He built it in about two months, and the footprint is anchored by a central courtyard surrounded by a main royal tower, a second tower for staff and knights, and a gated entry with a bridge tying the whole scene together. Even without interiors, there’s a lot of story packed into the exterior—down to the king and queen toasting on a veranda and a procession welcoming their children back home. What really stood out to me is Tom’s approach to texture and color. He mixes light bluish gray with sand gray masonry, plus some older light gray, to create that worn, aged stone look, then offsets it with sturdy, travel-friendly trees and layered foliage (darker leaves inside, lighter outside) so the landscaping “pops.” He also leans into the modern Castle renaissance: custom Black Falcon accessories from Brick Warriors and Pickle Bricks, plus a lit Black Falcon logo from Big Kid Bricks and stained-glass windows in the chapel. It’s a great example of how today’s parts ecosystem—LEGO and third-party—can elevate a classic theme.
