About This Video

Hey everyone, Joshua Hanlon here. In this video I’m at Le Sommet de la Brique 2025 checking out an incredible cyberpunk/post-apocalyptic city layout called NeoSheaga (their “new Montreal”), a collaborative build heavily inspired by the New Hashima-style stacked 32x32 cube worlds we’ve featured on the channel for years. I talk with Patrick Bej and other builders about the backstory: Montreal overwhelmed by water, businesses and homes lifted into vertical layers, and a more utopian vibe than the darker takes you often see—plus a very Quebec-specific twist with French signage instead of the usual sci-fi “Asian” lettering. We walk section by section through the city: iconic Montreal businesses like IGA, a metro entrance, Victorian houses stacked into the skyline, and a custom-lit tower with a Montreal train (the REM) running through it—complete with hand-soldered LEDs and carefully chosen resistors for the right brightness. One builder packs his cube with “Montreal essentials” like baseball, food spots, Chinatown-inspired archways, and yes… traffic cones everywhere. We also see Quebec City-inspired businesses, a darker industrial/green management concept, UV-reactive vibrant yellow accents, bikes and e-bikes for transit, and even a biodome-style area with moving penguins using a simple chain-and-light trick. Seven builders contributed this year, and I’m excited to see how much bigger NeoSheaga gets next time.
