About This Video

In this video, I’m at Le Sommet de la Brique 2025 talking with builder Bruno di Ialla about his massive LEGO model of the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, right across the river from Ottawa. Bruno picked this landmark because he loves the architecture—and especially the organic curves—then set himself the challenge of proving you really can do rounded forms with “square-ish” LEGO building. We dig into how he landed on a 1:80 scale by matching real-world details like the number of columns and window spacing, even turning the window assemblies sideways to nail the proportions. What really elevates this build is that it’s not just a shell. Bruno opened up one side so you can see interior exhibits representing the evolution and cultures of First Nations across Canada, plus a backdrop inspired by the museum’s huge forest image. We also get deep into the engineering: a roof system that lifts as a single transportable piece, more than 50 turntables to break off the grid, and an under-floor support network of Technic frames and offset “jumper” techniques using 1x2 rounds. With 150,000+ pieces, about 31,000 of them sand green, and roughly 1,200 hours over two years, it’s an incredible mix of art, accuracy, and serious logistics—down to 16 hours of on-site reassembly and meticulous bagging/labeling for transport.
