In this video I got hands-on with a new kind of LEGO “smart play” experience where you’re literally bringing ships to life by how you move them. We start with an X-wing, and the moment you pick it up and fly it around, the audio reacts to your motion—so the flying sounds change as you swoosh it. Then there’s a super satisfying “authentic firing effect” using a clever physical trick: the mold designer built it so when you press the button, it pushes a red tile/brick element in just the right way. That’s the whole point here—blending physical play with digital feedback in a way that still feels like LEGO. We also add characters to complete the scene: Luke goes in the cockpit, R2-D2 drops in, and you even get authentic R2 sounds. Then we jump into an “epic battle” by bringing a TIE Advanced to life with Darth Vader—complete with the Imperial March popping up once in a while to set the vibe. What really stood out to me is how the system rewards active play: if I hold the X-wing still, I’m easier to hit, but if I’m moving and flying aggressively, I can dodge shots. It’s designed to get kids (and honestly, us too) up and moving—running around, aiming, and balancing shooting with staying mobile.
