This video is part two of my Daniel Smith Watercolor Triads “Seasons” painting session, following directly on from my swatching video where I tested all eight of the new triad sets. In this one, I’m actually putting the Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter triads through their paces by painting four more full sketchbook page spreads in my Bectober sketchbook. I keep it very practical—mixing, layering, and seeing how each limited palette behaves once it’s doing real painting work (not just looking pretty in a swatch grid!). As I paint, I talk through my impressions of each seasonal theme: what feels harmonious straight away, what surprises me when I start mixing, and which colours I’d personally reach for again. I also rate the sets, because I know that’s the big question—are these triads actually worth it, and do they make painting easier/faster in a sketchbook?
