In this live stream, I take a hard, practical look at what professional integrity actually means in animal training—and why it matters more than ever as our field becomes more visible, professionalized, and monetized. I define integrity as more than “good intentions.” For me, it’s the alignment between what we say we value and what we actually do, especially when personal benefit bumps up against professional obligations. That includes transparency about conflicts of interest, proper attribution, respect for institutional boundaries, and prioritizing the collective good over personal gain—because our choices ripple outward into animal welfare, professional trust, and public credibility. I also talk about how integrity gets tested in subtle ways: normalized ethical gray areas, power and influence dynamics, and professional alignment with individuals or organizations. Who we collaborate with, platform, and publicly support is not neutral—it signals values and affects whose work gets amplified. I share warning signs I watch for, like leveraging institutional credibility for private gain, fuzzy boundaries in trade organizations, and appropriation without attribution. My takeaway is simple: there’s no rulebook that will save us. We are the guardrails, and sometimes the most professional move is learning to say no.
