What if the year that challenged you the most also proved just how capable you really are? This video is a reflective look back at 2025, a year that wasn’t always easy, but was undeniably productive. From new courses, livestreams, workshops, and global events to a major peer-reviewed publication, this recap highlights how meaningful progress in animal training can happen even when conditions aren’t ideal. Using one simple but powerful question: “Am I a better trainer today than I was yesterday?” We explore why reflection matters, how perseverance builds real capability, and what this past year reveals about our capacity for growth as professionals. As we turn toward 2026, this is both a celebration of what’s been accomplished and an invitation to think intentionally about the kind of mastery and impact you want to pursue next. About This Video

In this livestream, I close out 2025 by asking one simple, powerful question: “Am I a better trainer today than I was yesterday?” When you’re in the middle of a busy year, progress isn’t always obvious—especially when you’re dealing with burnout, limited resources, or other “bumpy roads.” Reflection helps us counter that feeling of “I’m not doing enough” by looking at evidence: what you learned, what you practiced, and what you produced. I walk through the training education and professional development work we accomplished this year, including new Animal Training Fundamentals courses (like the constructional approach to compassionate animal training, building training programs, and improving data tracking with a digital training log). I also recap many of our deep-dive livestream topics—genuine choice, control, nonlinear contingency analysis, injection training, training hacks, recall training, and more—because these were driven by real questions and real challenges trainers are facing. I also share highlights from global events and hands-on workshops, plus a major milestone: the peer-reviewed paper Annetta Pedersen and I published on the constructional approach in zoo animal training. My goal is to show that meaningful progress can happen even when conditions aren’t ideal—and to invite you to think intentionally about what you want to master as we head into 2026.
