Polarization has impacted many communities, including the world of animal training. In some ways, polarization has played an important role in the development of procedures that have led to improved welfare for animals. This includes a movement towards reinforcement-based procedures and building behavioral repertoires, as opposed to focusing on punishing undesired responses. However, polarization has fallout that divides communities and impacts relationships. By evaluating how we communicate and disseminate information about animal training, perhaps the same progress can be made without polarization. Constructive conversations may allow us to collect more data to fully support our position or make reasonable changes and, at the same time, maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues/friends. --------------- 📚 RECOMMENDED CITATION Barbara Heidenreich.
