Solo hiking a beautiful, deceptively difficult section of the AT spanning from the Iron Mountains (no, not the ones from LoTR unfortunately) to Carvers Gap. This trail is about 16 miles with 5283 feet in elevation gain, and 3103 feet in loss. I lugged 55 pounds of backpacking and camera equipment, which made it a tiny bit tougher. And by tiny, I mean significantly. The huge range of biomes on this section of trail make it special. You see everything from the common wilderness found in the American South, to dense rhododendron forests, to barren, almost alpine like balds.
