Yo, what’s going on everybody—Mike here with BackpackingTV, and today I’m reviewing the Gossamer Gear Loris 25L daypack. I’ve been testing this thing on a whirlwind of travel and filming across Scotland, Costa Rica, and the Faroe Islands for our Epic Trails TV series, so it’s seen a bunch of different weather and terrain. It’s basically the daypack “variant” of the Mariposa 60 I reviewed before, and weirdly enough, even though it’s smaller, it actually packs in more features. What I like about the Loris is that classic Gossamer Gear simplicity—at the end of the day it’s still a big, usable cavity—but with smart quick-access storage where it matters. You’ve got that nice fat front pouch for sunscreen, snacks, extra water, whatever, plus a sit pad slot (GG staple), shoulder strap pockets for quick snacks, and two water bottle pockets on the sides. There’s also a quick-access “snack pouch” on the back, and the main compartment has a zipper that runs about halfway down so you’re not digging around blind. My biggest criticism is the same one I have with most ultralight packs: the lightweight material is going to be easier to tear, so don’t go crawling under barbed wire with it. But overall it’s lightweight, comfortable, comes in fun colors, and it’s just big enough for a solid day hike—or a multi-day if you’re crazy.
