About This Video

It’s pushing 90° here in sunny California, and I decided to do a real-world test in a long-sleeve sun hoodie anyway. In this video I’m checking out Hilltop Packs’ Custom Sun Hoodie—basically their awesome print quality paired with a mid-weight sun hoodie. I walk through the customization angle, then I get it out on a hot hike to see how it actually wears when you’re sweating, moving, and dealing with a little breeze. Fit-wise, it fits me well, and the hood is very big with a nice “tunnel” effect when it’s on. The tradeoff is that it’s light enough that the wind can blow it off your head, so for me it’s almost unusable without a hat. Comfort is good, but it’s on the warmer side and not super breathable—I felt pretty insulated out in full exposure. The upside is it dries fast: mine was soaked and was completely dry in the front in under an hour (the back stayed wet where my pack pressed). My takeaway: I like how it feels, but for my kit it’s more of a winter sun hoodie, not the best choice for a hot, sunny California day.
