About This Video

Hey, it’s Doug with Backcountry Pilgrim, and in this video I’m walking through the hiking sunglasses that finally solved my “broke my prescription shades for the 100th time” problem. I’d tried the cheap over-glasses route and just didn’t like it, so I went looking for something that was super light, super tough, and available with prescription lenses. I ended up ordering through RX Safety Glasses, and honestly, the ordering process was part of the fun—good organization, lots of brand options, a try-on style preview, and a surprisingly effective pupil-distance step. I landed on the Wiley X Peak XL because they looked purpose-built for the environments I’m in on trail. I go over the Captivate lenses (vibrant colors, vivid detail, glare reduction), UV and HEV blue protection, and the safety certifications. The lenses are scratch/impact resistant and shatterproof, plus they’re hydro and oleophobic to cut down on water streaks and oily smudges. On the hike, they were lightweight, comfortable at the nose, and the prescription was dead on—sharp focus, a little golden hue, and better definition even my daughter noticed. They slipped a bit when I got sweaty, but I couldn’t shake them off, and that’s a win in my book.
