In this video I talk about a question I see all the time online: “If I leave the USA, am I going to be unsafe?” And honestly, that conversation inspired me to zoom out and remember something important—there are plenty of safe places around the world, and the United States isn’t automatically the safest by default. I share a story someone told us about feeling incredibly safe abroad, specifically in Hong Kong, and why that stuck with me. She described how a cab driver went out of his way to make sure she got back to her hotel safely—especially because she was on new medications and had a drink, and things got a little mixed up. He took the exact fare from her wallet, nothing more, and nothing was missing. She also lost her dog at one point, and the police helped her for hours until they found the dog at a pet store being cared for. Moments like that are a reminder that safety can look different in different countries—and sometimes it’s better than what we’ve normalized back home.
