About This Video

Anubias is that one plant you’ll see everywhere—from beginner planted tanks to contest-level scapes—because it’s genuinely hard to kill. But if you just throw it in the tank and hope it will look lush and clean, good luck… it won’t happen. In this video, I show you how I maintain Anubias properly so the money you’re paying (and yes, these plants are expensive) actually feels worth it in terms of aesthetics. I break down the right way to trim: remove yellow, damaged, half-melted, or accidentally cut leaves by cutting the leaf stem from the core (not just chopping the leaf). I also share a “pro tip” if you accidentally cut the rhizome—don’t throw it, keep it in the tank because it can regrow into a baby Anubias. Then we talk algae, especially black beard algae and green dust algae: why it looks bad, how it slows photosynthesis, and why manual removal + fixing the root cause matters. Finally, I cover placement for faster growth (moderate light, not shadow), avoiding high flow to reduce BBA, using CO2 if possible, dosing a little liquid fertilizer weekly (because Anubias feeds from the water column), and even multiplying Anubias by cutting the rhizome to stretch your budget.
