In this video I go live and literally cull a full branding shoot in Lightroom—807 photos down to a client-friendly selection. I’m walking you through how I make the “tough calls” in real time: picking the better of two near-duplicates, ditching anything that looks like a test frame, and paying attention to little stuff that makes a portrait feel finished (hands “sitting in the paint,” faces looking settled, and poses that actually feel masculine when I’m shooting a guy). I also talk through why I don’t just dump 800 images on a client—at a certain point it’s information overload, and they’re hiring me for my eye. I also break down what happened on location: starting in a Fremont parking garage where security pulled up in like two minutes, then moving to a spot where I tried flash with an AD200 and ND in harsh conditions. I explain why the flash look wasn’t “jing” with me (the scene reads as shade, but the subject is lit, so it doesn’t mesh), and why I switched back to natty light.
