In this video I’m doing a Patreon request and reacting for the first time to Joe Bonamassa’s “Going Down” live at the Greek Theatre. I’ve never seen anything quite like this performance before, and I’m not even gonna lie—I was instantly hooked. The piano intro pulled me in right away, and then that big hit with the lights? Staggering. I’m filming in my kitchen (best lighting, okay), but the energy coming off this performance had me feeling like I was right there. As a singer, I’m paying attention to the vocal entrances, the stage presence, and how the band supports the whole thing. I loved the backing harmonies, the little bits of soloing between the vocal lines, and how emotive Joe is when he plays—you can tell he’s fully in it. The brass parts are simple melodically, but they glue everything together, and then we get that wild moment where the keyboard switches to organ and I’m like… wait, what just happened? I’ll be honest: I’m not a huge “guitar solo gal” because I don’t really solo myself, but I can absolutely appreciate the technical skill—pull-offs, speed, dexterity—and the musical knowledge of knowing where to go in the moment. The ending is relentless in the best way, like “when’s it gonna end?” energy, and then they land the final hit so clean. Loved it.
