In this video I do a completely blind, first-time reaction to Alip Ba Ta playing a fingerstyle cover of “Tenda Biru” (Desi Ratnasari). I go in with zero context on the original song, so I’m listening purely as a singer/guitarist who loves breaking down what makes a performance feel “impossible” but still musical. And honestly—oh my gosh—this one had me wanting to pause every five seconds because he’s doing something ridiculous basically nonstop. I talk a lot about what I’m hearing and seeing technique-wise: super clean bends, insanely fast passages where every note still rings out, and that smooth, connected sound he gets from constant slides, hammer-ons, and pull-offs. I also explain what those techniques are in plain language and why they matter for fingerstyle—how sliding helps you connect phrases and get into position, and how hammer-ons/pull-offs add texture without breaking the flow. The biggest takeaway for me is how effortless he makes it look: it’s a master-at-work kind of performance that’s relaxing to listen to, but also makes me want to immediately go practice guitar.
