In this video I talk through how I choose a nib size, and why there’s no single “correct” answer. I’m not an expert—just a nerd with a camera and an opinion—so I’m coming at this from the practical, real-world side: what you want the pen to do, what paper you’re using, and how much variation you’re willing to put up with from pen to pen. Nib size isn’t just “fine vs broad,” it’s line width, ink flow, dry time, and how forgiving your setup is when you’re writing fast or on mediocre paper. My big takeaway is to avoid groupthink and test with your own use case in mind. Different nib sizes can make the same ink look totally different, and the same nib size can behave differently depending on the pen and paper. If you’re new and you’re trying to reduce variables, pick something middle-of-the-road and learn what you like from there.
