In today’s day in the life, I’m taking you along for a real, slow-living spring half term day as a mum of four here in South East England. The morning starts with that very normal “mountain of washing up” after a pancake feast, and then I sit down to plan the day properly—writing out my nonnegotiables and trying to keep my priorities realistic. I also start baking focaccia (and yes, I had to start again because I didn’t mix it enough the first time), and I set up a simple, no-print creative activity for the children using shapes, glue, ribbon, and scissors. From there it’s the usual gentle homemaking rhythm: a quick reset of Milo’s very clutter-prone bedroom (knowing full well it’ll be messy again in ten minutes), folding never-ending laundry, and trying to carve out a calm pocket of time in the middle of the chaos. I also share a little sneak peek of my bedroom refresh—sheer curtains and warm fairy lights to make it feel more spa-like and zen. Then we pivot—because motherhood is like that—and decide to get out of the house. We head into town for soft play, the library, and end up eating out and seeing a friend. We come home with hungry children, and I jump straight into feeding everyone before the post-soft-play meltdown hits. It’s imperfect, busy, and honestly one of my favourite kinds of days.
