In honor of Albany Law School's 175th anniversary, this distinguished panel event honors the life and legacy of Robert H. Jackson, Albany Law Class of 1912. Panelists will discuss Justice Jackson’s storied career as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, his profound commitment to fair process in international adjudication in wake of the 80th anniversary of the Nuremberg Trials, and how Jackson's work influences teaching of the law today. Panelists include: John Q. Barrett John Q. Barrett is the Benjamin N. Cardozo Professor of Law at St. John’s University in New York City and the Elizabeth S. Lenna Fellow at the Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown, New York. He is a renowned teacher, scholar, writer, commentator, and lecturer on law and history topics, in the U.S. and internationally. Professor Barrett is a biographer of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson (1892-1954), Albany Law School Class of 1912, who served following World War II as U.S. chief prosecutor at Nuremberg of the principal surviving Nazi leaders for war crimes. Professor Barrett discovered, edited, and published Justice Jackson's now-acclaimed memoir THAT MAN: AN INSIDER'S PORTRAIT OF FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT, which is both F.D.R. biography and Robert Jackson autobiography. Professor Barrett also is author of numerous articles and chapters, including on Justice Jackson and Nuremberg, and he writes The Jackson List blog/newsletter, sending a few essays per month that reach over 100,000 students, teachers, lawyers, judges, and lifelong learners around the world. Hundreds of Jackson List essays are at thejacksonlist.com. Professor Vincent Martin Bonventre Vincent Martin Bonventre is the Justice Robert H. Jackson Distinguished Professor at Albany Law School. He received his PhD in Government, specializing in public law, at the University of Virginia; a JD from Brooklyn Law School; and a BS from Union College. Dr. Bonventre teaches, comments and advises on courts, judges, and various areas of public law. Those areas include the judicial process, the Supreme Court and the New York Court of Appeals, criminal law, and civil liberties. He has authored numerous works and lectures regularly on those subjects. Prior to joining the Albany Law School faculty in 1990, he was a law clerk to Judges Matthew J. Jasen and Stewart F. Hancock, Jr. of New York’s highest court, the Court of Appeals. Between those clerkships, he was selected by Chief Justice Warren Burger to serve as a Supreme Court Judicial Fellow. Previously, he served two tours in the U.S. Army—one in military intelligence and one as trial counsel in the JAG Corps. Professor Rose Rameau Rose Rameau is an Associate Professor at Albany Law School. Prior to joining Albany Law, she was a visiting professor in international law, international business transactions and international arbitration at Georgia State University College of Law. Prior to academia, she founded and managed Rameau International Law in Washington DC and Paris, France, a boutique firm specializing in public international law and white-collar defense investigations. Professor Rameau is a leading practitioner with over 20 years of experience in international arbitration, investor-state treaty-based dispute, cross border disputes, white collar defense investigations (FCPA, UK Bribery Act and French anti-corruption laws. She is trained in civil and common law traditions. She has advised and represented sovereign states and companies on international disputes resolution and international law. She has been appointed by investor and sovereign state as sole arbitrator, co-arbitrator and president of tribunals in disputes concerning African states and foreign investors. Professor Rameau is a board member of the Jamaica International Arbitration Center (JAIAC). She is a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana, and a former court member of the International Court of Arbitration in Paris. Professor Rameau is a member of the ICC Task Force Addressing Issues of Corruption in International Arbitration. She is a Global Counsel for UNDP and was recently appointed Co-Chair of the ABA(SIL) International Investment and Development Committee.
