Anderson Legislative Series will focus on major legal and policy issues facing the K-12 education community and lawmakers. The Government Law Center at Albany Law School will host the virtual program, “Current Issues in New York State Education,” on Thursday, February 6, from noon to 1 p.m. Featured speakers include: • Kyle McCauley Belokopitsky, Esq. ’05 – Executive Director, New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers (NYS PTA) • Robert Megna – President, Rockefeller Institute of Government (SUNY) • Marina Marcou-O’Malley – Co-Executive Director, Alliance for Quality Education • Sean Giambattista – Director of State Aid, New York State Education Department • Alithia Rodriguez-Rolon – Legislative Director, New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) "As we enter the second month of the legislative session here in Albany, this panel will highlight critical issues in education law and policy. Topics like the configuration of the Foundation Aid formula, the use of cell phones in schools, and the prospect of universal free school meals are very timely, and we are excited to foster a thoughtful conversation on them,” says Patrick Wildes ’16, Director of the Government Law Center. The series is free of charge and open to the public, but registration is required. The Zoom webinar link will be shared after registration. Continuing legal education (CLE) professional practice credit is available for attorneys who attend. This program is the first of a series of four held monthly from February through May. The Warren M. Anderson programs feature experts who address major legal and policy issues pending before New York State government. The goal of these programs is to explain and promote dialogue about current and proposed law and policy, rather than advocate for a particular policy or course of action. Programs from past years can be viewed at albanylaw.edu/government-law-center/warren-m-anderson-series. The series is named in honor of Warren M. Anderson ’40 who served in the New York State Senate for 36 years, working with six governors. He was the longest-serving majority leader of the Senate, holding that position from 1973 to 1988.
