About This Video

Y’all have caught me in a slightly chaotic office moment, but we’re using that energy for something productive: a Tokyo stationery and fountain pen shop tour. Last November, I went to Tokyo (I’ve been about 10 times in the past 10 years), and this trip was basically a pilgrimage—part research mission, part excuse to revisit old favorites, and part “let me finally see these inks and pens in person instead of online.” Fountain pens are now an essential part of my journaling practice, so I built this route around both stationery and truly good pen experiences. In this video, I take you through my must-stops: Travelers Factory (airport, Tokyo Station, and the flagship for stamps, limited editions, and postcard vibes), Maruzen Nihonbashi for a smooth weekday fountain pen shopping experience, and Ankora in Ginza where you can literally build your own fountain pen (which, yes, I did). I also hit the Ginza staples—Muji flagship and Loft—plus Bungu Box for inks and limited editions, Tobichi for Hobonichi heaven (tax-free, older covers, and lots of temptation), and my favorite discovery: Bunto, a nostalgic shop with retro-inspired finds you won’t usually see in the big commercial stores. If you’re planning your own stationery run, my biggest takeaway is: go with a list, pace yourself like it’s a museum, and don’t stay stuck in the Shibuya/Shinjuku bubble—East Tokyo is so worth it.
