About This Video

In this video, I’m taking you back memory lane and literally pulling out a tote bag full of the notebooks I’ve used to document my four years living in Berlin. I moved here from Manila in February 2022, and I didn’t have one perfect ā€œBerlin journalā€ from day one—I bounced between systems depending on what my life needed. Some seasons were pure logistics (visa appointments, apartment registration, lists and inventories), some were heavy processing (anxiety, uncertainty, big life decisions), and some were me treating my first months like a trip—tickets, museum bits, first impressions, and small observations that made the city feel real. I also show how drawing became a huge tool for me, especially when my anxiety was loud. Black-and-white sketching lowered the barrier (just a pen, no fuss), and it helped me stay present by focusing on what was right in front of me—windows, coffee shops, packaging, outfits, and the streets I kept walking. As the years went on—especially through a tumultuous 2023—I leaned into undated journaling, tarot logs, daily tear-off calendar dates, and eventually a more consistent everyday practice with my Hobonichi Techo once my living situation stabilized. To wrap it up, I share a simple photo-based project: a little ā€œbaby bookā€ for my first big girl apartment, made with Instax prints and captions. It’s my reminder that documentation doesn’t have to look one way—it just has to meet you where you are.
